Twinax Cabling

Twinaxial Cabling ConnectorAll Network Cabling Services, Inc. has a fair amount of experience with twinax cabling. This type of cabling used initially by IBM to support it's 5250 terminals and printers. Twinax Cabling was designed by IBM as a replacement for the RS-232 dumb terminals. The main advantages of Twinax were it's high speed, (1Mbit/s versus 9600 bit/s), the disadvantages were, the requirement for proprietary Twinax cabling with bulky screw-shell connectors

Twinax cables, short for twinaxial cables, are cables with almost similar properties to coaxial cables or coax, an electrical cable type comprising of inner conductors surrounded by insulating spacers, which are still surrounded by outer cylindrical conductors. The difference of twinax from coax is that there are two inner conductors in twinax, compared to one in coax cables. Twinax is becoming more popular and demanded because it has become more efficient and practical to use it.

One current application for using Twinax Cabling includes Cisco Systems implementation coupled with SFP+ modules. Currently this type of connection is able to transmit at 10 Gigabit full duplex speed over 10 meter distances. This setup offers 15 to 25 times lower transceiver latency than current 10GBASE-T CAT6/CAT6a/CAT7 cabling systems: 0.1 μs for Twinax with SFP+ versus 1.5 to 2.5 μs for current 10GBASE-T specification. The power draw of Twinax with SFP+ is around 0.1 watts, which is also much better than 4-8 watts for 10GBASE-T.

ANCS has outpaced its competitors in this area. Because the company has always been updated and exposed to the latest happenings and developments across the cabling industry, it has gained the traction and advantage of being one of the firsts to learn, adopt and practice modern and latest measures and use the newest products.
